Collection: Uncle Slam

From founder Todd Moyer: In 1985, Todd Moyer and Amery Smith first met and played together in a band called The Brood. When Todd finally left, he tracked down Amery with the idea of Uncle Slam, and he was into it. That was the birth of Slam and the vision of Slam was clear from the onset. “We were the antitheses of pop music, we just played what we liked.” Throughout '87 Todd and Amery traded demo tapes and ideas, went to see lots of live music and locked themselves in a rehearsal room. When it was time to put together demo tapes and test out some material live, Simon Oliver came in and was the main contributor to the bass parts. It became clear to the band that this material needed to be recorded. Mike Muir was instrumental in getting the band signed. The record was originally slated to be released on Mike’s Suicidal Records label, but something changed behind the scenes, and the record fell to Caroline. ”The debut album “Say Uncle,” was released in '88 with the legendary producer Randy Burns producing. After the debut record was released, the band needed a bassist and Louiche Mayorga had just left Suicidal Tendencies. Playing locally with bands like Wasted Youth, The Mentors, Beowulf, and one particularly memorable show with The Cro Mags at the legendary Fenders Ballroom in Long Beach Ca. This was a good jumping off point for the band. The band then toured the U.S. with D.R.I. The band released two more well-received albums, with the last in 1995.
